I am trying to set up a new laptop and when I try to connect to the internet it asks for a security key. I tried my password but that doesn't work. I called my internet providor but they say it should be my password. I Googled it and all I can find is stuff about the router. I tried all of the numbers off the back of it and none of them work. Please help me!!! Thanks!!

I've tried to troubleshoot it, it shows me the following.

Going to the device manager, gave me the following.

The main issue here is that, to download drivers I would need wifi/cable but it isn't recognising any of it. (Adapter which needs to be downloaded but I'm unable to, since I can't access internet in the first place.)

Hello guys,

I have some abit old laptops (compaq presario cq56)  available for my group users, and i was wondering if i could disable the wifi button in this way they will always have wifi connection on, because most of my users problems revolve around this issue sometimes i cant be able to access their laptops remotely to solve the real issue , so is there any option in the bios or anywhere else i can alter in order to keep the wifi on all the times?

Thank you and best Regards.

I am on Virginmedia and have recently upgraded from 50 mbps to 70 mbps.

On my desktop I am getting app. 70 mbps but on the notebook I can only get app 48 mbps both wired and WiFi.

Does something on the laptop need resetting?? Is there a limit I can change as I would have thought this new ( just purchased at Xmas) laptop is capable of higher speeds??

Laptop can't connect to internet, but other devices can

Hello,

I have recently started having problems with my wireless internet drivers and was wondering if anyone could help. My laptop is connected to the internet, but not exactly connected. There is a "limited connection" symbol causing it not being able to connect to the internet. My other devices, such as my iPad and iPod were able to connect to the internet without any issues, but it seems it is just my laptop that is having this issue.

I've looked all around the forums and tried many things from uninstalling my drivers and having it reinstall itself to going to the cmd command propt and entering in "ipconfig /renew" "/release" ect, and it hadn't helped at all. So I'm kinda out of options.

I could buy  an internet cable to connect to my laptop from the router because I'm currently using my brother's cable while he is away, but I want to see if I could get some other suggestions before I resort to buying an internet cable.

So if there are any other suggestions out there, it would be great to hear it. I can take screenshots of things if needed as well.

Thank you in advance,

Atsui

Connecting to NAS Drive Via WIFI

$

Hi,

I'm connected to my Router via Wifi. My Netgear READNAS NAS Drive is hard wired to the router. I can connect with any other PC , laptop etc via wifi. but on my new HP Pavilion x360 it doesn't appear in My PC or Network.

My Laptop and NAS are both in the same range of IP address 192.168.1.*** and attempting to Ping the NAS from my Laptop gets the following :- Reply from 192.168.1.197: Destination host unreachable.

If I Plug the Laptop in to the router with a LAN Cable I can Connect as normal. Map the Drives so they appear in My PC, but when I disconnect the cable I cannot connect to these.

I'm guessing this is a wireless adapter issue, but for the life of me a can't find anything in the settings and I don't want to have to hardwire it when I want to access my files.

Any help here would be very much appreciated. Thanks In Advance.

I have an iPad and have sucessfully installed the software on my Macbook Pro to use it to print on my Officejet 5740 printer. Do I need to establish a unique email address for the printer to print from remote locations? If I set it up to print remotely, will the material I want printed when on my own WiFi go through the network?

Disappearing wifi?

Firstly: apologies for my lack of knowledge of technological terms

My Option to use wifi has completely disappeared. The image/button down the bottom right now shows a box with a cord and a Red/white Cross instead of the wifi symbol and when I click on that there are no options for wifi. I click on network settings and the list of options on the left (airplane mode, data usage, dial up, Ethernet, proxy) does not have wifi in the list, so I don't know where to click or what to do. The problem is reoccurring, it used to fix itself when I would restart my computer but it's not longer doing that. I have tried using an Ethernet cable and that still works, so I'm not sure what else to do.
Thank you for any suggestions!!

Missing Bluetooth Service

My laptop can't seem to connect via Bluetooth.

Unfortunately, there is no driver found for this service on the Device Manager window. The Windows Update does not help a bit. I'm using an old laptop: Pavilion dv4. I can't seem to find the exact driver however when I checked on the unsupported devices, this model is not on the list. Hoping someone can provide me a link on where I can download the corresponding driver. And would it cause issues if I install a generic driver.

Please help! Smiley Happy

Update: Managed to find the source of the issue myself and all sorted

Dear Forum Community,

I have been given a laptop by the oragnisation I volunteer for but cannot get it to connect with our WiFi at home- it has detected it only once for a brief moment whilst practically sat on top of the router.  It does detect my neighbours however and I have tried turning off router, etc. for 45 seconds restaring laptop but no luck.

I am not very technical but have never ran into difficulties such as these before when connecting to a wifi network.  I find some of the technical abbreviations from other posts confusing so haven't been able to follow some past suggestions and would need very clear steps to follow if anyone has any thoughts and can offer help.

Believe it has recently had Microsoft 10 installed, I don't know if that would cause an issue????  As i say, I know very little about these things.

It has a virtual Wifi Filter Driver: Microsoft Corporation 10.0.10586.0 and a virtual wifi miniport driver : Microsoft Corporation 10.0.10586.0 and MediaTek 802.11 Wireless adaptor driver amongst many others.  Don't know if this is useful info

UPDATE: tried checking to see if the newtork adapter needed updating (Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi Fi Adapter) apparemtly system has the most up to date and best suited.

Thank you,

HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-f105na - 5G wifi upgrade

$

Hi,

I have had this Pavilion for over a year now and have been totally dissatisfied with the WiFi performance.  I understand now that this is due to the restrictive practice of installing sub standard WiFi hardware then preventing users from upgrading this should they wish.

The b/g/n (Broadcom) adaptor in this machine is that in name only as it can only connect at up to 72Mbit, to a router to which my 9 year old Dell laptop, also with a b/g/n adaptor, can connect at 300Mbit. It should be labeled as G-ish instead.

I stupidly assumed when purchaing this machine that the adaptor installed would be at least as fast as my 9 year old Dell, but I was mistaken.  I have now decided to try to upgrade to a genuine N adaptor or ideally an AC adaptor but understand that HP restrict this.  I am tempted to just swap the adaptor from my old Dell for an immediate upgrade but would like to use the 5G band of my router if possible.

I need to know what hardware is 'allowed' to work with this machine that I can source myself.

If anyone can help me with this I would very much appreciate it.

Cheers
