I recently bought an HP Envy m6 k012dx TS sleekbook running Windows 8.1.
It has a Ralink RT 3290 802.11bgn WiFi adapter.
The adapter seems to have a very poor range compared to the adapters on other laptops in the house. I get the full 8 Mbps when the m6 is placed next to the router and when connected via LAN cable. But it drops to about 1 Mbps after I move about 20 feet. The other laptops still get the maximum speed at this distance. I've have updated the router firmware and the adapter drivers, but it hasn't helped.
Is this an issue with the Ralink adapter? If so can anything be done about it?
