lag time between time hit to print and orinter starts up

I have a new officejet pro 8600, works great. I have a problem with the lag time between the time I hit a doc. to print and the printer responding. When I first hooked up the printer the lag time was about 2-3 secs. now it is about 28 secs. I have tried hard rebootof printer,router. help
