I'm taking a look at a laptop (Hp pavilion 15-n278sa) for a relative. It came with Windows 8.1, and he accepted theWindows 10 upgrade when it became available - initially everything worked fine. Since then a further update was offered (he believes from HP Support Assistant) which appears to have broken wifi - the light on the F12 key is orange and will not change to white.
I've attempted to remove/update drivers for the Wireless card (Realtek RTL8188EE b/g/n Wi-Fi Adaptor), and also for the "HP Wireless Button Driver" / "HID-Compliant wireless radio controls". I've attempted this both using drivers from the HP site and also just allowing Windows Update to get updates automatically online, all to no avail.
To rule out a hardware problem, I've repartitioned the disk and installed Windows 8.1 onto a 2nd partition; when booting this the light on the F12 button goes white and Wifi works successfully.
Any thoughts/suggestions gratefully received!
